AzTC Delegation Visits Bulgaria Ahead of Sofia Book Fair 2016

A delegation of the Translation Centre under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic (AzTC) headed by its Director Afag Masud is visiting the Sofia Book Fair 2016.

The AzTC delegation met with officials from the Bulgarian Translators’ Union (BTU) at Sofia University, as part of their visit from December 13th to December 17th. The meeting focused on AzTC’s work in the past two years, aimed at boosting interliterary exchanges, and the book "An Anthology of Modern Azerbaijan Literature", with the Russian edition presented in Moscow, the Arabic edition in Cairo and the Turkish edition in Ankara. The sides also discussed the translation and publication of samples of world literature for Azerbaijani readers. Further, the sides exchanged views regarding the publication of the book in Bulgarian to be translated by professional native speakers and published by a Sofia-based publishing house.

In his speech, BTU Chairman Ivo Panov said: “We have been closely tracking your activity. You have translated and published The Invention of Morel by Argentine writer Adolfo Bioy Casares. This work is a spellbinder, I am sure. It’s worth noting that Argentine authors occupy a worthy place in the outstanding list of writers across the globe. Your initiatives to popularize world-famous prose writers and poets are indeed commendable.”

The event was also attended by BTU deputy chairs Rada Sharlanjiyeva and Veselina Ijekova, its Executive Secretary Sabina Pavlova, and H.E. Nargiz Gurbanova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria.

The meeting with Fair organizers discussed plans regarding Azerbaijan’s fullest participation in the Sofia International Book Fair in 2017.

AzTC Director Afag Masud and Chairperson of the Bulgarian Book Association Veselin Todorov shared views on the translation of samples of Azerbaijani literature into Bulgarian to be available until the next book fair in Sofia.

Following the event, Afag Masud gave an interview to Ole Al-Ahmad, a reporter of Bulgaria’s Standart newspaper.
