Mexican Ambassador Visits AzSTC To Talk About Future Projects
The Azerbaijan State Translation Centre (AzSTC) on Wednesday received a visit from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to Azerbaijan, discussing future projects how to beef up literary ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Juan Rodrigo Labardini Flores says he has sought the assistance of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs in publishing An Anthology of Azerbaijani Literature, adding that several publishers have already agreed to support it.
“I am also here to speak about notable Mexican writer David Toscana who is expected to visit Azerbaijan,’ he said.
“I am fond of literature, you know. I think that literature and music better convey a people's identity and sentiment. To look at a painting is just the tip of the iceberg and see only certain moments of life, but literature creates a deeper impression. I recently read The Brothers Karamazovby Dostoyevsky, which is his magnum opus. To read this work in origin, I would like to master Russian perfectly.”
He also says he has a great affection for Azerbaijan.
“Our embassy represents not only Baku, but also the whole Azerbaijan. We have been holding events and fairs across Azerbaijan, and my friends, who visit your country, always make some very positive impressions here.”
The meeting also focused on AzSTC’s editions that also include samples from Mexican literature, and how to promote Azerbaijani literature in Latin America.
