Samad Vurgun’s Verses in Spanish Electronic Literature Magazine
“Babab.Cultura de revista”, the electronic literature magazine, has posted in Spanish the verses “How Early, Poet, You've Grown Old!” and “I Am Not In A Hurry” by Samad Vurgun, the People’s Poet of Azerbaijan, as part of the AzSTC project “Azerbaijan Literature in an International Virtual World.”
The translators of the verses into Spanish, preceded by information about the creativity of the poet, are Paul Poggi Alessandro, a notable Spanish translator, and Tutukhanum Yunusova, the Spanish language specialist.
It is worth noting that the literature magazine “Babab.Cultura de revista”, which has a wide auditorium of readers, regularly publishes works by such coryphaeus as Isabella Bird, Thomas Mann, Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Varqas Llosa, Blanca Andreu.
Samad Vurgun
(1906–1956)
· poet, playwright, translator, literary critic;
· was the Chairman of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Cultural Relations Society with Foreign Countries, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR;
· is the author of hundreds of verses, poems and dramatic works, such as “Azerbaijan”, “The Gazelle”, “Aygun”, “The Spring Legend”, “The Maiden Rock”, “Vagif”, “Farhad and Shirin”, “Human Being”, to name a few;
· was the first to be awarded the honourary title the “People’s Poet” of Azerbaijan.
